Ed's Statement My primary media are acrylic and oil paints. The images I create focus on people and our social environments. Most of my paintings are depictions of the local area. I devote most of my attention to color and composition. The composition of my work reflects a balancing of objects in a linear perspective. I use contrast to compliment the variation of light and form. This is achieved by the control of simple forms as well as bold brush strokes. Since paint is applied generously to the surface, the emphasis of rhythm and texture is highly noticeable. The use of these combined elements allows a unique flexibility to create more involvement with the viewer.
I want to convey a loose visual experience, a timeless image caught in a moment. I want people to relate to my pictures on an emotional level and from a technical standpoint. I find that the study of people and their environments provides a more suitable subject matter for demonstrating my concept of expression. The overall effect of my work is to allow the viewer to participate in a unique indelible experience.
